On 21 October
2011, the Arbitration
Institute celebrated its 100th anniversary with a seminar
and a gala dinner at Hilton
Helsinki
Kalastajatorppa Hotel in Helsinki,
Finland.
The seminar was inaugurated by Mr Risto E.J. Penttilä, CEO of the
Finland Chamber of Commerce, whose welcome address was followed by the
speech of Mr Alexander Stubb, Minister for European Affairs and Foreign
Trade of Finland, on "Finland as a Problem Solver".
Panels of distinguished speakers addressed topics related to
international arbitration in Finland, Scandinavia and Russia, the
users' expectations and experience in arbitration, and current trends
and challenges in international commercial arbitration.
Seminar speakers were Justice Gustaf Möller (Chairman of the Board, The
Arbitration
Institute
of the Finland Chamber of Commerce), Ms Paula Paloranta (Secretary General, The Arbitration
Institute of the Finland Chamber of Commerce), Mr Juhani
Ristaniemi (Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a Finnish
corporation), Mr Tomas Lindholm (Advocate, Helsinki), Professor Kaj
Hobér (Stockholm), Professor Alexei Kostin (Chairman, ICAC - International Commercial Arbitration
Court at the
Chamber of
Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation), Mr William Laurence Craig (Arbitrator, Paris) and Ms Anne Marie Whitesell (Former Secretary General of
the ICC International Court of Arbitration, Washington).
Panel moderators were Ms Nina Wilkman (LL.M., Helsinki), Ms Gisela Knuts (Advocate, Helsinki), Mr Mika Savola (Advocate, Helsinki) and Mr Jouko Huhtala (Advocate, Helsinki).
